The Problem
Hearing loss stands as a profound and often overlooked aspect of healthcare, exerting a substantial impact on overall well-being. This widespread concern affects individuals across various age groups, significantly influencing their daily lives. The main areas of the world affected by disabling hearing loss are the South Asia, Asia Pacific, and Sub-Saharan Africa regions, with a prevalence rate of almost four times that of high-income regions.
Over 36 million people live with hearing loss in Africa alone, where hearing healthcare services are deficient.
Hearing loss is on the rise because of factors such as:
- Aging population
- Genetics
- Untreated infections & poor hygiene conditions
- Exposure to noise
- Exposure to ototoxic substances
How is Puretone Africa helping? We are working to establish a network of hearing aid clinics across Eastern & Central Africa covering diagnosis, hearing aid fitting, and rehabilitation.
